Task lighting places illumination close to a specific industrial work area so assembly, service, inspection, machining, and production tasks can be seen more clearly.

Industrial task lighting supplements broader facility illumination by concentrating useful light near the work itself. It can be positioned around a bench, assembly fixture, maintenance area, inspection station, tool, machine, or other localized task.

Because the fixture is close to the worker and the target, beam direction, glare, adjustability, shadows, mounting, and physical interference become important design considerations.

A fixture mounted near the work can often provide better task visibility with less total output than a distant source.

Adjustable arms, brackets, rails, pivoting mounts, or repositionable luminaires can allow the lighting direction to change with the work.

The mounting method should remain stable enough that the fixture does not drift, vibrate excessively, or interfere with tools and materials.

A bright source placed close to eye level can create direct glare. Reflective workpieces can create a second problem by reflecting concentrated light toward the operator.

Diffusers, shields, wider emitting surfaces, indirect angles, and controlled optical distribution can improve visibility without simply increasing brightness.

Hands and Tools Can Block the Light

When a single light is positioned on one side of the task, the operator's hands, tools, fixtures, or components can create shadows over the work.

A larger source, different mounting angle, or illumination from more than one direction can help reduce deep shadows where that is important to the operation.
